Tuesday August 6: “Faith and Reproductive Justice”

Missouri has been in the national news as “pro-life” advocates have pushed for new laws and policies that may make us the first state in the union with no clinic offering abortion services. While regarding all abortion as having a “tragic dimension,” since before Roe v. Wade The Episcopal Church has advocated for reproductive choice in local, state, and national policy. Join our rector and Dr. David Eisenberg of Missouri Planned Parenthood in a conversation about faith and reproductive justice.

Because the first Tuesday of July falls so close to Independence Day, we won’t be meeting for Theology on Tap.

For Pride month, we host a conversation about faith, gender identity, and what it means to be an ally with our trans siblings. Sayer Johnson, Director of the Metro Trans Umbrella Group will be our speaker. (MTUG has just been named the Grand Marshall of this year’s Pride Parade).

Tuesday May 7: “Better Together?”

What would it mean to unite the city and county? Join a conversation about the “Better Together” proposal. We’ll hear from representatives from the campaign, and from the Hon. Joe Adams, who is part of an alternative plan called the “Freeholders Proposal.” The months are shaping up to be contentious in St. Louis as various proposals are weighed surrounding the merger. Join us for a wide ranging conversation about the plans to unite city and country.

Tuesday April 2: “Harry Potter and the Sacred Story” with the Rev. Mike Angell and Prof. Hannah Shanks

For a generation of readers, Harry Potter has become an important touchpoint in questions of hope, love, and working against evil. Together we’ll ask “How does story become sacred? What does it mean to read Harry Potter alongside Scripture?” Join the Rev. Mike Angell and Professor Hannah Shanks of Greenville college, two self-professed church nerds and “Potterheads” for a wide-ranging conversation about Harry, faith, and talking about values across generations. Feel free to wear your favorite Harry Potter regalia.

On Tuesday, February 26, at 6:30pm we will be hosting a special Theology on Tap at a special location.

We will gather at Alpha Brewing Company at 4310 Fyler Ave at 6:30pm on Tuesday February 26th. Deborah Nelson-Linck, chair of the Bishop nominating committee, will be leading the listening session.

January: We stand in Recess

For the month of January we will be taking a recess due to the proximity of our regular Theology on Tap time to the New Years’ Holiday. We’re letting the Dressel’s staff take the night off.

Tuesday November 6: “#MeToo, Consent, and Stories of Saints”

Theology on Tap returns to Tuesday evenings as the Rev. Beth Scriven leads a discussion about the #MeToo movement, consent, and to share the stories of saints. Beth was part of important work with our denominations’ church-wide effort to create a culture of honesty and repentance about systems of abuse in the church. She also comes to share the too-infrequently told stories of saints like Thecla, who 2000 years ago counted a miracle when God saved her from her would-be-abusers, a saint who claimed her voice and her place over and against the powers of the day. This will be a conversation not only about pain, but about hope and bravery.
